my responsibilities

My studio is a positive and enthusiastic environment. I teach students the foundations of music, so they can understand and share the joy of self-expression. During lessons, students discover and develop their own authentic voices. My mission is to empower students with the skills, understanding, and confidence they need to take ownership of their own learning and musicianship. I aim to prepare students to practice and share the joy of music for the rest of their lives.

As their teacher, I will:

  • Tailor student’s lessons to their individual needs
  • Be prepared and punctual for students’ lessons
  • Regularly check in with students about their progress and challenges

student & family responsibilities

Lessons are a time for students of all ages to grow as both musicians and individuals. Of course this growth would not be possible without the support of our families. (I can’t tell you how many hours my parents and siblings spent driving me to and from lessons, rehearsals, and performances over the years!) If you’re the caregiver for a student, encourage them to practice and perform. Ask them to perform the piece they’re we’re working on after dinner or suggest they try out for the musical! Similarly, take them to see professional musicians perform or watch an opera or concert on PBS. Performing and talking about music is a great bonding experience for families.

Students will:

  • Arrive to lessons on time and prepared with their instrument, music, assignment books, and a pencil
  • Practice regularly
  • Approach lessons with an open mind and ask questions

Families will:

  • Encourage their child to practice and perform regularly
  • Let me know if something at home/school is affecting your child (Did Johnny not get cast in the play? Is Sandra just getting over strep throat? Give me a heads up, so I can be sensitive to their needs.)

Cancellations & Billing

Your weekly lesson slot is yours and yours alone. If something does come up, please give me at least 24 hours notice. Please note that if a student is sick enough to miss school or work, chances are they won’t get much from a lesson that day.

  • Any lesson that I cancel will be made up or a credit will be given
  • If a student cancels a lesson 24 hours in advance, I will schedule makeup lessons if possible
